The Kitchen

Sam shuddered. "When I was 15, I asked if I could spend the night at a friends house. it was the first time mom said yes. She called every half hour, and would ask us everything, then record the messages to be sure we weren't lying to her, and to check later."

Jon rolled her eyes. "Doesn't care to over protective. Fun."

"Well. I guess...you're not going to speak much sense. Nyeh. Just...don't get mad at mom, and don't get her mad at you. I'll...I'll do what I know needs to happen. Even if What needs to happen will be strange to you. It's the balance. She may like you, she may not...And, if she doesn't...what I have to do to keep you from thinking I hate you, and her from thinking that you need to be crushed." Sam said, making her own french toast, then frying some sausages that she found, to make a nice breakfast.

Jon raised an eyebrow. "That doesn't make sense."

Sam sighed. "Mom is strange. I need to keep the balance. I can't tell if she'll approve of you, or disapprove. either way is not very good. I mean...if she likes you, it's good and all..."

Sam paused. "IF she likes you enough, she'll push us together, and implant false emotions to get us together even more. Is she doesn't like you, she will try...she'll...she'll either crush you, crush us both, or she'll ignore it and know it'll go away."

Sam took a bite of toast. "If she tries to crush us...she'll do something to you I had a boyfriend once, wasn't really that into him, but mom thought I was, becuase I wouldn't let her into my head. she put him in the sanitarium becuase, he's a normal human, and he would feel glee after cutting himself. He is still in there, trying to kill himself." Sam told him, trying to explain.

"She can make the smallest of arguments life and death for us. It's stupid...but it's the balance. I have to keep it."

Jon raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"

Sam shrugged. "I"ll be weird around mom. be prepared."

Jon frowned.

"What? She's my mom, who's trying to get me to kill her. What should I do?" Sam asked, sipping on a glass of milk.

Jon gave her a look. "Be gratful you didn't have my stepmom."

Sam shrugged. "I think we're even."

Jon shook his head. "I'm, personally, glad the bitch is dead."

"Well...not the same then, mine is still around and hunting for me." She siad, then glanced out the window. "I think it's time to go elsewhere."

Jon frowned. "What?"

"Um...my mom happens to like pretty, fast and expensive cars. generally silver. Cars like the Porshe out front." Sam said, calmly.

Jon grinned. "High, ho, Silver!" he said, smirking.

Sam laughed. "Yeah. that car, and the presence of a telepath, tells me that I need to exit the premises."

Jon stood. "Where to?"

Sam shrugged. "Somewhere."

Just as she got to the door, the front door swung open to reveal Sam's mom.

"Hello Samantha dearest." She siad calmly.

Sam had frozen completely. "Mom."

Jon hid in the shadows, hoping the woman wouldn't notice him.

Caroline glanced at the guy in the shadows. "Samantha...I didn't think you'd still be here."

Sam shrugged. "Haven't left. Should I have?"

"No, of course not, Darling. Who's your friend?" She asked, laughing lightly.

Sam glanced at Jon. He'd have to pick. Friend? or boyfriend? Which would he say?

"I'm her friend's brother. I live here too. Jonathon Gallagher, ma'am. My sister is Marisol. Now if you'll excuse me, I have work this afternoon."

Sam smiled. "See you later. Pass it on to Mari, by the way."

Caroline looked at him. "I recognize your name. Why would that be, I wonder? Samantha? How do I know him?"

"He's dad's favorite student from high school and college." Sam siad obediently. "Also, Marisol Gallagher was the intern who did those tests on my hair every 6 weeks, so you could find out whether or not my powers awoke."

Caroline blinked. "Well. I guess that's it."

Sam nodded. "bye." she suddenly said, disappearing to come out in a closet in her classroom.

Jon walked outside. "Good day Ma'am." He nodded his head.

Caroline huffed. "Where did she go?"

She thought. "Well...the sister was a lab tech. I'll just go to the lab."
